The Leap-Frog

A Flea, a Grasshopper, and a leap-frog once wanted to see which could jump highest; and they invited the whole world to watch it.

The king heard about the competition and said, “I will give my daughter to him who jumps highest.

The Flea was the first to step forward. He had exquisite manners, and bowed to the audience on all sides.

Then came the Grasshopper. He was heavier, but he was well-mannered, and wore a green uniform.

“I sing so well,” said he, “all the other grasshoppers were jealous of me”.

Both the Flea and the Grasshopper thought they were good enough to marry a Princess.

The leap-frog, on the other hand, said nothing.

Now the trial was to begin. The flea jumped so high that nobody could see where he went to; the grasshopper jumped only half as high; but he leaped into the King’s face.

The leap-frog stood still for a long time, lost in thought, when, pop! He made a jump into the lap of the Princess, who was sitting on a little golden stool close by.

Here upon the King said, “There is nothing above my daughter; therefore to jump close to her is the highest jump that can be made; the leap-frog understood this. He is brave and smart.”

With these words, the king gave the princess to the leap frog.

The Frog Prince

Once upon a time, there lived a king with his beautiful daughter, the princess.

One day, the princess went to the forest to play with her favorite toy: a golden ball.

She was playing when her ball fell into the well.

“What’s wrong, princess?

Maybe I can help.”

The princess heard the voice, looked, and saw an ugly frog.

“My ball fell in the well.”  Said the princess..

“Don’t cry! I’ll help you if you will be my friend.” Said the frog.

“OK, I will be your friend” the Princess agreed but she thought: This ugly frog is silly. We can’t be

The frog jumped into the well, and got the ball.

The princess was so happy she picked up her ball, and ran away.

“Wait!” the frog said, but the princess didn’t listen.

The next day the Princess was at home and she heard a noise at the door.

“Princess, please open the door!”

She opened the door and saw the frog

The King saw it and asked “Why is there a frog here?”

“Yesterday my ball fell into the well and the frog got it for me.

So I promised we could be friends, but he’s just a frog!” the Princess protested.

The King looked at his daughter and said:

“This frog helped you.  You must be kind and keep your promises. Let him in.”

The frog hopped to the table.

“Please, lift me up.”

The princess did, but she wasn’t happy.

“Let’s eat together.”

They did, but the princess wasn’t happy.

After some time, the frog said:

“I’m tired, please carry me to your room and we can sleep.”

The princess carried the frog upstairs.

“I want to sleep on your pillow – please, lift me up.”

The princess did, but she wasn’t happy.

In the morning the princess woke up.

The frog was gone, and there was a handsome prince sitting on a chair.

The prince explained: “A witch turned me into a frog and your kindness helped turning me back into a prince.”

At this moment, a colorful coach drove up, with eight beautiful horses.

“Now let me show you my kingdom”.

It was not long before the princess gave her permission and bid the King goodbye and got on their way.
